Book blasting – part 1

On the 11th December, we held a Book Blast for Stories for Homes. As well as numerous tweets (we were trending at one point under #storiesforhomes), Facebook shares and likes, many bloggers took up the challenge of promoting both the book and Shelter. If you didn’t catch all of them on the day, here are just a few; we’ll post more over the next few days. Please, feel free to continue to share and tweet and like and keep the book in the public eye.

Isobel Costello wrote about the story behind SfH – the personal experiences that sparked an idea and ended up with a book. Debi Alper got philosophical about what happens when people pull together to make a difference, Rachel Dunlop wrote about how good self-publishing can be, and Debs Riccio, the book’s cover designer, suggested that buying the book was way better than adopting a penguin…

We had folk who used Shelter’s eye-opening statistics; Katherine Hetzel focussed on the fact that 80,000 children will be homeless in the UK this Christmas, as did Jackie Buxton.

Some bloggers wrote from a point of gratitude that they had never known what it is to be without a home – Sal Page and Jilly Wood were both glad to be able to support others with their wordy talent – and Eastbourne Writer Wendy Ogden posted a short story to show what ‘home’ meant.

Then there were bloggers who had been touched by housing and homelessness issues themselves. Susmita Bhattacharya contrasted homelessness in her homeland, India, with what she found in the UK; Jules Anne Ironside remembered her days in A&E; Andy Szpuk had been driven to get involved because of the homelessness his father experienced in Eastern Europe after the second world war.

It wasn’t just words though – several posts went multi-media.  Jaqueline Ward posted the SfH promotional video designed by Imran Siddiq and Erinna Mettler covered multiple issues about homelessness in ‘All I want for Christmas’, sharing a video that was so powerful, it left me reeling.
