A Letter to Jennifer – Rob Walton

Dear Jennifer,

…I need to share a few little quirks about our humble abode.

…There are two locks for the front door and, as I already detailed in my email of the 16th (sent at 4.03am – do all wives have these crosses to bear?) John at number 16 (a number coincidence – do you believe in these sort of things? There’s a book about it in the small room downstairs if you do) will have the keys. You’ll love John (any problems go see him.He can turn his hand to almost anything. Literally.)

Quirk numero uno. When our heating was installed the switch for the water was problematic. The man I married, Antony, claimed to have ‘solved’ it, but the switch is now set to OFF when the water is ON (ie constantly heating) and is set to ON when the hot water boiler is lying idle, ie is OFF. Please don’t worry about any of this because John – why didn’t I ask him to do it in the first place? – will pop round to make sure it’s all OFF (ON!) before you arrive. You’ll probably end up having an ON/OFF relationship with John. You wouldn’t be the first.

If you’ve enjoyed this snippet and would like to read the rest of the story, why not purchase a copy of the book? The Stories for Homes anthology, containing 63 stories and poems by both award-winning and yet-to-be-published authors became a bestseller AND all royalties go to the charity Shelter.
