The Team Behind Stories for Homes
The Stories for Homes project is the brainchild of its two editors, Sally Swingewood and Debi Alper
Sally Swingewood has over 20 years of experience in publishing, both as an editor and a writer. Beginning her career on business-to-business magazines, she survived employment with the Maxwell group to become Assistant Editor of Time Out’s first venture outside of London,Time Out Amsterdam. Sally has written for local and international newspapers, edited film and theatre scripts and contributed to a number of books. Also an internationally exhibited artist, Sally studied Fine Art & Art History at Goldsmiths’ College before gaining an MA in Creative Writing, the Arts and Education from Sussex University.
Debi Alper is an author and editor. Her first two novels, Nirvana Bites and Trading Tatiana, urban thrillers set among the sub-cultures of South East London, were published by Orion to critical acclaim. She has since set up her own imprint and has re-published both novels as e-books, along with the next two in the series, De Nada Nirvana and Me, John and a Bomb. The Gene Pool will be following soon.
For the last ten years, Debi has spent most of her time helping other writers to perfect their novels through critiques, mentoring, Book Doctor sessions and creative writing workshops. She edits in all genres and many authors that she has worked with have been signed up with agents and gone on to see their books published. She also runs the phenomenally successful Writers’ Workshop Self-Edit Your Novel course, together with Emma Darwin, as well as acting as a competition judge.
Debi lives in South London with her partner and sons. She sometimes feels like a tiny island of oestrogen afloat in a sea of testosterone and smelly socks. http://www.debialper.co.uk/
Along with Sally and Debi, many people have donated their time and skills to the project. A huge debt of thanks is due to those who helped with:
Peer editing, website design, proofreading, art work, layout, e-book technicalities, social media liaison, organising events and readings, and more!
Without them Stories for Homes would not be possible.
